The Eco-Angels Program

Eco-Angels Logo

It is with great pride that P&C Compostech would like to announce the creation of the “Eco-Angels” program. This program will help to publicly recognize those companies who have made a commitment to making their business more environmentally friendly.

We will be piloting this project in the world renowned city of Niagara Falls. We chose to locate our company’s headquarters here for various reasons. This city has shown great leadership in the greening of their businesses. This leadership sets a wonderful example for other businesses in Niagara Region, Canada and the World. It is hoped that with this type of recognition, more local companies will be as progressive as this forward thinking municipality.

“Eco-Angels” will work together with businesses to create individual “Eco-Plans” and facilitate a timeline for implementation. We will work with Niagara Parks and Recreation on designing a street visible symbol which will be given to participants. This symbol will aid judges from “Communities in Bloom” to readily see how many businesses are onboard.

These decals will let local residents, and those visiting from around the globe, see which businesses have made the decision to work in “Eco-Operation” with the community on becoming earth friendly. It is also hoped that more people will choose to become part of the program, furthering the positive effects created for our planet.

Ribbon Cutting

It’s not easy being green, but SAC is certainly going to give it a try. The Student Administrative Council (SAC) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony, complete with cake and live entertainment, Oct. 3 to launch After Hours’ new initiative of using only biodegradable flatware and cutlery. SAC President Heather Minow was pleased with the overall attendance at the Welland campus event.

“We were looking for representation from a couple of different avenues, students, faculty. We had members of the NEC [Niagara Environmental Corps] present and we also had a couple of political representatives here to show their support for the cause.”

Clarke Bitter, president and CEO of the year-old company P&C Compostech, explains the options available for disposing of their products.

“Basically you have three options once you are finished. If you were to take it home from a restaurant, for example, put it in your green bin and let the Region pick it up, put it in your backyard composter and use it for soil for your own backyard, or landfill it. Landfill is the least attractive of the options. However, it does get landfilled and does still decompose in the landfill.”
